The Canadian Institute of Professional Accountants
The Canadian Institute of Professional Accountants is federally incorporated
with chapters in the following provinces of Canada: British Columbia, Alberta,
Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.
The Institute is a professional organization for the ongoing education
and setting of qualifying standards to ensure competence of its members in
the practice of accountancy.
Members meet in regional and national sessions during each year to
ensure knowledge of current accounting standards and tax regulations.

Special Grand fathering Clause
A special grand fathering clause is available for qualified
members, subject to meeting minimum standards and requirements of the Canadian Institute
of Professional Accountants.
Anyone meeting these requirements will also be exempt from
writing accreditation examinations.
Who may be eligible to apply for admission to the course of
study and for membership in the Institute?
Any person who wishes to achieve competence in the practice of
accountancy, either in the private or public sector and will diligently embark
on the course of study leading to the qualifying examinations. Applicants
in possession of one or more of the following Commonwealth designations: APA,
CA, CGA, CMA and those with the CPA designation and comparable qualifications
from other jurisdictions, are eligible for exemption from the course of studies
and may qualify for exemption from writing the mandatory accreditation
examinations.
How does one qualify for membership?
Qualifying courses are offered throughout the year at
post-secondary institutions. A detailed summary of the educational
background and professional or work experience of the applicant and requests for
subject exemptions for regular membership applications and grand fathering
applications may be submitted to the Registrar of the Institute.
Also, evaluation of transcripts and/or course exemptions is
advised at the time of Associate Membership application.
